This townhouse was built in 1888, soon after the 1884 earthquake. It is in the mediaeval Arab Quarter of Alhama de Granada and originally the lower level was space for animals. It has recently been renovated to a high standard to have three floors of stunning living accommodation. Designed to make the most of the superb views of ´Los Tajos´, the deep gorge that runs beside the town. It is surrounded by narrow, cobbled streets with fantastic historic buildings under the walls of the Iglesia Mayor De Sta. María De La Encarnación, that dominates the town´s skyline.
Guests have access to the whole, self-contained, property which comfortably sleeps six people. The entrance from the street is at the upper level where there is a large lounge with comfortable seating and dining areas, and views to the gorge. Also on this level is a balcony, a twin bedroom, a bathroom with shower, and stairs leading down to the main bedroom. This has a double bed and on-suite bathroom with shower. The stairs then continue down to the lower level with a large dining area leading out onto a terrace with table and chairs, overlooking the gorge. Also, on this level is another on-suite twin bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen.
The house has everything you need for a perfect stay including fibre-optic internet access, and linen & towels included for your convenience. Inside the front door is space to securely keep bikes or hiking equipment if required.
The location, midway between Málaga and Granada, is a fantastic base for exploring a glorious hidden corner of Andalucia. The surrounding countryside has extensive olive groves and almond trees and is wonderful for walking. The Parque Natural Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama is close by and there are interesting walks along the gorge leading to the Pato Loco and Ventorro Restaurants and the hot springs. These springs were used by the Romans and there are many other Roman and Arab remains in the surrounding area. To the east is Lake Bermejales for swimming, water sports and relaxing barbeques.
The house is a three minutes’ walk from the Plaza de la Constitución, with the Town Hall, site of the old castle, and a good selection of restaurants. There is free parking close to the house.
